Special Leave Policy and Procedure

Queen Mary is committed to supporting employees to balance the requirements of their role with their home and personal responsibilities. Our Special Leave Policy and Procedure provides additional support to employees at extraordinary times, both for their own welfare and for the welfare and wellbeing of others.  It also provides opportunities to request time off for public duties to further our commitment to supporting staff to engage with the wider community

Please note that from 14th February 2022 the Special Leave Policy and Procedure replaces the following family leave included within the Maternity and Other Family Leave Provisions Code of Practice:

  • Unpaid Time off for dependants
  • Compassionate and other leave for family reasons

All other provisions within this Code of Practice still apply and the Code will be updated shortly to reflect these changes.

 Recording Special Leave on MyHR

Managers will soon be able to record on MyHR the special leave taken by employees. In the meantime managers should keep the special leave application form on the employee's local file so that dates can be entered retrospectively onto MyHR once the leave options have been updated.
