Leave and Worklife Balance

Queen Mary offers a generous package of leave to its staff including annual leave, college closure days, maternity, paternity and adoption leave and sabbatical leave.  There are also several types of flexible working opportunities available.

Leave

The College offers all staff 30 days annual leave (pro rata for part-time members of staff).  In addition, there are eight-public statutory holiday days and four college closure days which are prescribed by the College usually around the Christmas holiday period.

There are also a number of other types of leave offered, including sick leave, maternity, paternity and adoption leave and sabbatical leave.  Information on the various types of leave can be found in Leave policies.

Worklife balance

Queen Mary recognises that to recruit and retain the best staff it needs to support and promote a healthy worklife balance for its employees.  There are several types of flexible working opportunities available, for example working from home, hybrid working, term-time working, compressed hours and annualised hours.  Further details can be in Flexible Working.
