Get Active is the Students’ Union’s recreational sport and activities programme available to all students, staff and alumni. The programme consists of weekly timetabled sessions like wellbeing walks and staff football, and structured courses such as Couch to 5k and self-defence.
Anytime offers which include discounted swim sessions at Mile End Leisure Centre; and one-off events throughout the year, like the Vitality Big Half Marathon. All ability levels are welcome, and no specialist equipment or clothing is required.
Social Leagues are the Students’ Union’s intramural sports offering, which are available to all students and staff. The programme consists of leagues that run on each day of the week and across the duration of three semesters. Sports offered include: Football 7-a-side, Football 11-a-side, Basketball, Badminton, Table Tennis, Netball and Rugby. Social Leagues take place either on or near campus and are open to all abilities and backgrounds. At the end of each semester, finals week is held and teams in each league battle it out to be awarded medals and trophies and be crowned Social League winners.
Community Sport is the Students’ Union’s sport leadership and workforce development programme. All QMUL staff members are welcome to register as leaders to facilitate sport and physical activity with schools, sport clubs and other organisations in the local community. In return for your outreach, you can benefit from a host of rewards including certificates, clothing and funded sport qualifications.
Campus Games is a recreational sports programme run by the Students’ Union. The programme provides a chance for students, staff and alumni to participate in different activities throughout the year encouraging sociable interaction/rivalry between schools. Previous events include Run for Fun, Indoor Triathlon and Mixed Netball. Points are awarded to each school for their participation and at the end of the academic year one school will be the holders of the Campus Games Trophy.
If you are a staff member who is part of the Queen Mary University alumni, you can continue taking part in a sport or explore a new one to take part in. There are plenty of opportunities within Club Sport for you to get involved. Clubs are run by students for students and alumni, and the Students' Union is home to over 70 sports teams.
Join a sports club, represent your university and compete in local, national and international competitions. Being part of a club is a great social experience and an excellent way to develop your sporting skills.
The QM Running Group meets every Wednesday at 12.30pm, in the Principal’s Corridor, on the ground floor of the Queens Building on Mile End campus. The regular Wednesday run is a distance of approximately 4.5 miles to various local destinations. The group consists of staff and student runners. The local area is superb for running, with easy access to the Regent’s Canal, the Thames, Docklands, and even Tower Bridge and London Bridge. We aim out to build runners up from complete beginner’s level to 5k, 10k races, half marathons and beyond! It's totally free to join; please just bring your enthusiasm to run!

QM Gardening Group
The QM Gardening Group is made up of staff and student gardeners, or anyone wanting to understand more about planting, potting and seeding. The group is a free to join and lead by Queen Mary's Gardens Supervisor, Dimi Sopisz, our expert on all things green.
We run regular events that focus on our campus-based planters, showcasing how to plant trees, shrubs and vegetables (including rockets, lettuces, beetroots and courgettes). We meet regularly at the allotments on Mile End campus (behind the Village Shop).
If you’d like to join us you will need to register for our gardening events, so that we know how many to cater for on the day. No need for any knowledge or to bring anything with you.
