USS Consultation 2015

Published:

This week HR have sent out hard copy information packs via the internal mail (or externally for people who are on extended leave from the university) to staff who are current members of the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS) and those members of staff who are eligible to join but have chosen not to currently. The purpose of the packs is to provide you with information as part of a formal consultation with staff about the current proposals for change which the Trustees of USS are putting forward and which have now been agreed by the Pensions Regulator. QMUL will begin a period of formal consultation with relevant staff from Monday 16 March for a period of 60 days. Staff who wish to participate in the consultation by responding to the current proposals may do so via a website which USS have provided: www.ussconsultation.co.uk. The website will be live from Friday 13 March, and responses can be provided up until Friday 22 May 2015.

As well as providing facilities to respond to the consultation, the website also provides an electronic version of the consultation materials which we have sent in hard copy – a consultation paper, the Universities UK (UUK) case for change, a video, a Q&A document and, importantly, a benefit modeller which individual scheme members can use to understand the effect that the current proposals would mean for them. Queen Mary will also be meeting with the local trade unions to discuss these proposals and provide a response to the consultation. It is important to emphasise that this is a meaningful consultation; following the last such consultation in 2010, USS made a number of changes to their original proposal.

Anyone who does not receive an information pack should contact pension@qmul.ac.uk
