Implementation of our new HR Structure from 5 November 2018

The Human Resources Department at Queen Mary went through a restructure process in summer 2018. This was to ensure that HR is resourced appropriately, with the right level of experience and qualified staff deployed fully and effectively to provide efficient and quality professional HR services across Queen Mary.

Following a period of consultation and recruitment to vacant positions in the transition period, the new HR structure was formally implemented on Monday 5 November 2018, to coincide with the Wellbeing fortnight at Queen Mary. The HR senior team are meeting managers and staff from faculties and departments to inform about the key changes to the ways of working any changes in key contacts. If you have any questions related to this please raise this with your HR Partner in the first instance. 

The new HR structure will help:

  • Improve the strategic capability of HR
  • Ensure HR is resourced appropriately, with the right level of experience and qualified staff who are deployed fully and effectively, optimising their skills to provide efficient and quality professional HR services in all areas.
  • Provide a more structured approach to and improved capacity and capability in dealing with employee relations and recruitment matters to help meet service expectations and demands.
  • Establish areas of expertise within the HR department but at the same time create strong cross- team internal links (through the creation of the Assistant Directors, Head of Employee Services and Head of Employee Relation roles).
  • Ensure Professional development, OD and wellbeing and Equality and Diversity activities are more integrally embedded within the core HR function rather than standalone entities- ensuring more joined up working and professionalising HR.
  • Ensure that the HR Information system team, embedded firmly within the HR department and working closely with HR colleagues enables the provision of robust, prompt and effective service to colleagues across Queen Mary.    
  • Provide greater opportunity for career/self-development and role satisfaction for employees.
